Software architect and tech lead

Serhii Malyshev

Who I am

I'm Serhii Malyshev, a software architect and tech lead based in Ukraine. I've spent decades on large web platforms where architecture, delivery, and operations can't be treated as separate problems — the job is end-to-end systems, the teams around them, and the trade-offs that only show up under real load.

I write on Ship Then Fix and edit what ships here. Every piece under my name is mine to stand behind.

What I write about

Same voice across all four shelves — the topic changes, not the register:

  • Build — architecture, tooling, languages, infra patterns
  • Team — how groups ship together, process, friction
  • Lead — tech leading, stakeholders, hard calls
  • People — burnout, career, hiring, the human side of the job

The hub format is deliberate: one small topic per read, level labeled (footing / doing / mastery), scannable sections. I write for peers who've debugged production — not for beginners, not for traffic.

Editorial accountability

  • One clear takeaway per piece; claims you can check when a number or platform rule does the work
  • Sources when they earn their place — not citation wallpaper
  • Practical experience, not vendor docs or income-meta
  • Not medical, legal, or HR authority

Background

Polyglot because the job demands it — Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS; PHP, Laravel; React, Next.js, Vue; MySQL, PostgreSQL; Docker, Kubernetes, AWS. The specific framework matters less than whether the system survives real deadlines and real teams.

I've reviewed tech books for Packt and written for JavaScript in Plain English. Most of what I publish here lives in the gap between slide-deck architecture and what actually ships.

I work during working hours. Serious systems don't require sleep sacrifice; fire drills at night are a planning failure, not a credential.
